Introduction
Finland and Turkey have signed a cooperation agreement in the defense sector.
The Agreement
The memorandum of understanding, signed on 2 June in Ankara, represents a formal change in Finnish defense strategy. Currently, Finland, like Sweden, is committed to strengthening its integration into NATO, in the face of the looming threat at its eastern borders.
The Parties
The cooperation agreement was signed for Turkey by Haluk Görgün, head of the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries, and for the Finnish counterparts by Olli Ruutu, Finland’s national armaments director.
Outcomes of The Agreement
The agreement provides for co-production, development of capabilities, and sharing of military technologies between the two NATO allied countries, enhancing collaboration between Helsinki and Ankara. The Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the defense industry sector (DIP) will contribute to the development of cooperation in the defense industry between Finland and Turkey.
