The Bundeswehr in Germany has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply over 1,000 logistic vehicles for a total gross value of approximately 770 million euros.
The order includes the supply of a total of 963 vehicles with mobile cage systems, some fitted with protected driver’s cabs, as well as superstructures with mobile containers and tarpaulin arches.
In addition, the Bundeswehr requires 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in 4×4 and 8×8 versions.
Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) will deliver the approximately 1,400 required vehicles by the end of the year.
UTVs
UTV orders are an integral part of the framework agreement signed by the BAAINBw in July 2024, the largest order in the company’s history in the logistics vehicles sector. It calls for the delivery of a maximum of 6,500 vehicles with a gross value of up to 3.5 billion euros.
This framework contract allows the Bundeswehr to flexibly order additional amounts of UTV 5t and UTV 15t models already in service over a period of seven years.
In addition, through the framework contract, a new vehicle class has been introduced, now included in the integral part of the order. This is the 4×4 UTV 3.5t variant, which has the most components in common with the UTV family.
The UTV family has been significantly contributing to the Bundeswehr’s logistical units’ performance for several years.
In July 2017, the Bundeswehr commissioned RMMV to supply its new “UTV mil gl in payload classes 5t and 15t” family.
Thanks to the use of flexible framework contracts for large quantities in the context of military procurement, the UTVs have become a model project.
Since 2017, approximately 7,000 HX vehicles have been delivered to the Bundeswehr, along with mobile containers and 70-tonne semi-trailers.
The UTV and mobile container systems are based on the robust HX family of vehicles from RMMV. Designed for military use, they offer exceptional mobility even on difficult terrain.
