The Royal Armed Forces of Morocco have successfully conducted a test launch of the Israeli-made guided missile EXTRA, achieving the maximum range of 150 km and hitting the target with high precision.
The exercise, conducted in the east of the country, marks a significant step in upgrading Rabat’s missile capabilities and confirms the effectiveness of the recent acquisition of Elbit Systems’ rocket launcher system, the PULS (Precise and Universal Launching System).
The EXTRA missile and the PULS system
The EXTRA missile (306 mm caliber) is equipped with a 120 kg warhead and can hit targets up to 150 km away. During the test, a carrier achieved the maximum useful range, demonstrating the Royal Armed Forces’ ability to execute long-range precision attacks.
The PULS, acquired by Rabat through a contract worth about $150 million signed with Elbit Systems, provides considerable operational flexibility. In addition to the EXTRA missiles, the system can also launch Predator Hawk, with a 370 mm caliber and an operational radius of up to 300 km, significantly increasing Moroccan strategic depth and deterrence capability.
The test falls within a broader program of modernizing the Moroccan armed forces, aimed at keeping pace with regional and international developments in the field of tactical and medium-range missiles.
In recent years, Morocco has embarked on a plan to strengthen long-range and precision firepower capabilities, a factor deemed essential to ensure operational readiness in an increasingly complex security context in North Africa.
The success of the launch highlights the rapid integration of Israeli systems into Moroccan supplies and confirms the strengthening of military cooperation between Rabat and Tel Aviv.
