The US Army has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract worth $9.8 billion for the production of 1,970 Patriot Advanced Capability – 3 Missile Segment Enhancement (PAC-3 MSE) interceptors and related hardware.
This is the biggest contract in the history of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, demonstrating ongoing demand and confidence in this advanced, precise, and combat-tested interceptor.
The PAC-3 MSE uses kinetic impact, not explosive warheads, to engage and destroy its target. It is capable of engaging ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hypersonic missiles and aerial threats.
#### Ramping up Production
Lockheed Martin is continuing to increase the production rate of PAC-3 MSE to meet the growing demand for this missile defense system, which has achieved tangible results in the Middle East.
In fact, the company plans to deliver over 600 PAC-3 MSE interceptors for the first time in 2025.
To achieve this significant result, Lockheed Martin has invested significant resources and obtained funds from the US Department of Defense, boosting plants, increasing engaged staff and preparing the entire supply chain to support the increase in the production rate.
So far, seventeen countries, including the United States, have adopted the PAC-3 system to defend themselves from missile and aerial threats.
In the United States, starting next year, pre-operational deployment of PAC-3 MSE on board the DDG of the Arleigh Burke class of the US Navy is expected, following the full integration of the missile with the AEGIS system and the VLS Mk 41 equipped by these units.
