Denmark Confirms Selection of Air Defense Systems
In Copenhagen, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed that the Danish medium-range ground-based air defense will consist of three European systems.

The Defense Systems
In September 2025, the Danish Defense Ministry decided on a historic investment in ground-based air defense, with a total of eight medium and long-range systems.
For the long-range system, the French-Italian produced SAMP/T NG will be acquired.
The medium-range systems will include the Norwegian-made NASAMS 3, the German IRIS-T SLM, and the French VL MICA NG.
Therefore, Denmark is purchasing eight medium and long-range systems, each consisting of four units.
Each unit can autonomously launch a guided missile against an identified aerial target; the battery typically consists of a radar, a control structure, one or more launch platforms, and a certain number of missiles.
The Objective
In this way, ground-based air defense will be present throughout Denmark with the aim of protecting civilians, cities, military facilities and critical infrastructure from aerial and missile threats.
The systems can also be combined to provide a more solid and layered defense and address different threats.
The first ground-based air defense system will become operational towards the end of the year; from then on, the number of systems will gradually increase.
