Additional Carl Gustaf M4s for Denmark
Forsvarsministeriets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse (FMI), the Danish Ministry of Defense’s Agency for Materials and Supplies, has signed a contract with Swedish company Saab for the additional acquisition of Carl-Gustaf M4s and corresponding ammunition.

The first weapons will be delivered by the end of 2025 and will be assigned to both the National Guard and the Army.
The purchase of the new systems aims to strengthen the Army and National Guard’s ability to take on armored targets and enemy infantry.
The Danish Defence has been using the recoilless Carl Gustav cannon for several years; it gradually phased out the DYKN M/85 in 2022 and, since then, the DYKN M4 has become the Danish infantry’s antitank system.
Beyond the Carl Gustav M4s, the contract also provides that Saab will also supply a range of training materials, including ammunition and simulation equipment.
Specifications of the Carl Gustaf M4
The Carl Gustaf M4 uses a wide range of types of 84-mm caliber ammunition (armor-piercing, multi-purpose, anti-personnel, smoke, haze, illuminating, and training) and can be complemented by a modern observation and shooting system, daytime and nighttime.
The M4 stands out from previous Carl Gustaf models due to its overall smaller size and increased maneuverability, as well as improved shooting precision.
For comparison, the M2 weighs 14.2 kg, while the M4 is about half of that; moreover, the new model is 13 cm shorter in length, reducing the overall size of the weapon system.
