The number of K9A1 Thunder self-propelled artillery vehicles delivered by Hanwha Aerospace to the Warsaw Army in Poland has recently surpassed the threshold of two hundred units.

In fact, twenty-one more units of K9A1 Thunder were transferred from South Korea and were assigned to the 16th Mechanized Division of Pomerania and the Toruń Missile and Armament Training Centre.
Poland has signed agreements with South Korea for the supply of over three hundred and sixty K9A1 Thunder howitzers, part of which will be set up in the European country.
Characteristics of the K9A1
The K9A1 receives improvements and equipment according to Polish and NATO standards, mainly including communication systems and integrated fire control systems ZZKO TOPAZ made by Polish national industries.
The main armament of the self-propelled artillery is a 155/52 mm gun, which ensures accurate shooting at distances greater than 40 km with ordinary ammunition, a range that increases when using rocket-assisted propulsion ammunition.
For the close defense of the K9A1 Thunder, a large caliber machine gun of 12.7 mm is available.
The 47-tonne K9 is equipped with armor that provides protection to the crew and servants from light weapon shots and artillery grenade fragments.
The self-propelled gun from Hanwha Aerospace is powered by a 1,000 HP diesel engine, coupled with an automatic transmission, ensuring high speed and high mobility on any type of terrain.
