Inaugural Firing of Turkish 127mm Naval Cannon Showcases Triumph

In Turkey, the first sea trial of the new 127mm cannon made by the national industry MKE has been conducted successfully.

After the 76/62 mm gun, narrowly derived from the OTO Melara (Leonardo), MKE has dedicated itself to creating a higher caliber naval cannon.

The installation in question is a 127/54 mm cannon, not the 127/62 mm of Leonardo or BAE Systems’ Mk 45.

The new 127/54 mm barrel has been mounted on the Mk45 Mod 0 turret of the Yavuz-class frigate TCG Fatih (a MEKO200TN), a ship now used for testing, which successfully carried out the first firing tests.

These tests were carried out by MKE in collaboration with the Turkish Navy to determine the compatibility of the barrel with the turret, the Fatih frigate’s electronics, and to check wear during and after firing.

Furthermore, the presentation of the system in its final form, which will adapt a new type of tower now undergoing ground tests, is soon expected.
