KNDS DE Brings Modern Updates to the Boxer 8×8 Ambulance Fleet of the German Army

KNDS DE is Modernizing the Boxer 8×8 Ambulances of the German Army

In Germany, KNDS Deutschland (KNDS) has announced that they will modernize all BOXER 8×8 armored vehicles in the heavily shielded ambulance variant sgSanKfz.

In this regard, a corresponding contract has been signed between ARTEC (original constructor of the BOXER system and a joint venture between KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsystem) and KNDS Deutschland.

Under the terms of the contract, a total of 72 BOXER 8x8s, set up as ambulances, will be modernized by KNDS Deutschland.

What The Upgrade Entails

The upgrade will include the deployment of new advanced medical equipment for the ambulances. In addition, the BOXER sgSanKfz ambulances will be equipped with the latest generation of digital radios as part of the Heer’s D-LBO project (Digitization of Ground Operations).

The Contract

The contract is worth approximately 117 million euros, and the delivery of the first updated systems is expected to begin in 2027.

About the Ambulance Module

The variable ambulance mission module can accommodate a varying number of injured people, depending on the type of injury. It’s also possible to perform intensive therapy on board.

Protection Level

According to KNDS DE, the BOXER ambulance provides the same level of protection for the crew as the BOXER infantry variant, making it one of the best-protected vehicles for medical tasks on the market.
