In Latvia, at the National Armed Forces base in Lielvārde, Saab delivered Giraffe 1X radar systems to the Latvian Air Force in the presence of the Swedish ambassador.

The Giraffe 1X radar is an airborne surveillance radar for ground air defense that provides high quality target data, detection of drones and interception of missiles and mortars, enabling an immediate and effective response to threats and changing operational conditions.
Saab’s Giraffe 1X radars are mobile and can be installed on any terrain, as needed.
These Giraffe 1X radar systems are already in service with the National Armed Forces and were first used by the Latvian Air Force during the Baltic Zenith 2023 exercise.
The contract for the purchase of additional Giraffe 1X radars by Latvia was signed in December 2024.
The Giraffe 1X radar, combined with Saab’s RBS 70 NG, further strengthens Latvia’s air defense capabilities.
The Giraffe 1X is a lightweight 3D surveillance radar, multi-mission for simultaneous airborne and surface surveillance providing air defense target data to commanders, detecting drones (C-UAS), employable in the C-RAM role against rockets, artillery shells and mortar bombs, in a single system solution.
In addition, Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar system also offers continuous software updates to address emerging threats.
