Introduction
The State Department in Washington has made a decision approving a possible foreign military sale to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and related equipment for an estimated cost of $4.05 billion.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has issued the required certification and notified Congress.
Taiwan’s Request
TECRO requested the purchase of eighty-two (82) M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), four hundred and twenty (420) M57 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), seven hundred and fifty-six (756) Multiple Launch Rocket Systems-M31A2 Unitary (GMLRS-U), and four hundred and forty-seven (447) Multiple Launch Rocket Systems-M30A2 Alternate Warhead (GMLRS-AW).
Also requested were thirty-nine (39) M1152A1 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) and forty-five (45) International Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems (IFATDS).
Impact of the Proposed Sale
The proposed sale is in accordance with U.S. law and policy as expressed in Public Law 96-8.
The proposed sale will enhance the capability of the recipient to meet current and future threats, enhancing the defensive capacity of its forces.
The implementation of this proposed sale will require the assignment of three U.S. contractor representatives for a period of three years and two U.S. contractor representatives for a period of one year to provide technical and engineering services, as well as technical and program reviews.
