In the United States, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Air Dominance Division Contracting Office, has awarded Raytheon, a division of Raytheon Technologies Corporation, a maximum contract value of $3.5 billion for the 39th and 40th production lots of Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM).
The contract includes the production of AMRAAM missiles, the AMRAAM telemetry system, initial and service spare parts, and other engineering support activities for production.
The order includes Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Hungary, Ukraine, Israel, Kuwait, Australia, Japan, and Taiwan.
Work on this assignment will be carried out in Tucson, Arizona, and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of fiscal year 2031.
Currently, Raytheon produces the AIM-120C8 and AIM-120D3; the latter is equipped with modernized hardware, including 15 updated circuit cards developed with model-based systems engineering initiatives within the Form, Fit, Function Refresh program and uses the latest System Improvement Program (SIP)-3F software.
The missile offers a huge capability to counter current and future threats and is prepared to receive continuous Agile software improvements through SIP interventions.
Equipped with a more powerful propulsion system, improved guidance system, and an advanced type of data link, the AIM-120D3 has a range of over 180 kilometers and reaches a maximum speed of Mach 4.
