Recently, the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) communicated the completion of the modifications envisaged by the Increment 3 Block 2 program for the P-8A Poseidon, endowing the aircraft with improved ASW, ASuW and ISR capabilities.

The modifications were made and implemented at Boeing’s maintenance hangar in Florida, the manufacturer of Poseidon.
The Increment 3 Block 2 program is significant because it allows the US Navy to maintain the sophistication and capabilities of the P-8A Poseidon in order to face current and future threats, confirming that the aircraft will remain the most advanced for carrying out maritime patrol and surveillance, surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare.
Increment 3 Block 2 involves a significant upgrade of the P-8A’s fuselage and its avionic systems, with interventions on the fuselage, radome, antennas, sensors and cabling.
The modification incorporates a new combat systems suite with improved computing, a higher security architecture and a broadband Satellite Communication (SATCOM) system.
In addition, the program in question plans to equip the US Navy’s Poseidons with an enhanced ASW signal intelligence capability, a track management system and additional communication and acoustic systems to improve the capabilities of search, detection and targeting of enemy submarines.
The schedule intends to quickly bring the Poseidon fleet of the US Navy the modifications and interventions provided by Increment 3 Block 2
