Czech Republic Extends Gripen Leasing Until 2035
The Czech Republic and Sweden have agreed to extend the leasing contract of the Saab Gripen C/D fighter jets in service with the Czech Air Force.
Leasing Agreement Details
Under the agreement, the Czech Gripen C/D MS20 will be kept in service until 2035 and will be subjected to maintenance and modernization.
The leasing contract began in 2004 and this is the second extension of the contract that adds another eight years of leasing, management, and support to the expiry date of the current contract, set in 2027.
Future Plans
From 2027 to 2035, the Czech Republic will reduce the number of aircraft from the current 14 to 12 to limit costs.
By 2035, the Gripen will be completely replaced by 24 Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II, the first examples of which will be delivered in 2031.
