Denmark Receives Its First 6×6 CAVS Armoured Vehicles

The Danish Ministry of Defense has announced that it has received the first two Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 vehicles prepared by Finnish company Patria.

This inaugural pair of CAVS vehicles were transferred by rail to Bornholm, where they will be utilized for training and education of Danish personnel, mechanics, and specialists to become familiar with the new armored vehicle.

The Danish CAVS Program

Last April, Denmark joined the CAVS initiative and ordered a total of 129 vehicles derived from the Patria 6×6 with the delivery of the remaining armored vehicles set to begin next year.

The purchase of the CAVS vehicles was funded through the Acceleration Fund, a financial tool desired by the Government and approved by the Danish Parliament to support increased military expenditure and facilitate the modernization and enhancement of Copenhagen’s Armed Forces.

The CAVS are intended to equip both the light infantry battalion and the heavy brigade of the Royal Danish Army.

In the Danish ranks, the CAVS will find applications from infantry units and those of engineers, in various set-ups such as command and control stations, communications, armored ambulances, and for electronic warfare.

A Multinational Cooperation Program

The vehicle was purchased within a collaboration project with Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Germany and is produced in Finland with the participation of several Nordic subcontractors, including Danish ones.

The rapid acquisition of the CAVS by Denmark is the result of tight Nordic cooperation that guarantees a high degree of security of supply and the opportunity to support each other logistically.

As a result, purchase times are optimized, costs are cut, and interoperability between the armies involved in the program is ensured.
