Elbit Systems UK Supplies Ground-Based Surveillance Radar to British Army

Elbit Systems UK (ESUK), a Bristol-based defense technology firm, has reported the successful delivery of its first Ground-Based Surveillance Radar (GBSR) systems to the Royal Artillery, following successful field tests earlier this year.

The delivery of these 55 units, along with their supporting solutions, marks ESUK’s initial equipment delivery phase.

The GBSR is a portable radar system performing two main functions: surveillance and Fall of Shot (FoS), or fire correction.

When used for surveillance, the system can trace and classify personnel, vehicles, helicopters, and drones, providing troops with an accurate picture of ally movements and an early warning of incoming threats.

For FoS correction, the GBSR provides mortar and artillery teams with quick fire adjustments by detecting and locating shots with a high level of precision, improving the effectiveness and lethality of the fire teams.

The system, exclusively produced in the UK and Europe, was specifically developed to meet the British Armed Forces’ requirements and answer the demand for leading-edge detection and decision technology.

This innovative approach, combined with ESUK’s open architecture, led to the development of a high-tech solution that will enhance frontline troops’ survival and provide an operational advantage now and in the future.

Following initial deliveries, ESUK will collaborate with the British Army to deliver the remaining systems by the end of the year.

The GBSR is part of ESUK’s ‘detection and protection’ portfolio, assisting the British and Allied Armed Forces in detecting and countering incoming threats.
