Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) Celebrate Delivery of Norwegian Aqua at Marghera Shipyard

Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today celebrated the delivery of Norwegian Aqua, the first vessel in the expanded Prima Plus class, at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard.

The ceremony was attended by Fincantieri Chairman Biagio MazzottaCEO and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero, and Head of the Merchant Ships Division Luigi Matarazzo. Representing Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. were President and CEO Harry Sommer and Norwegian Cruise Line Brand President David J. Herrera.

Norwegian Aqua, with a gross tonnage of 156,300 and a length of 322 meters, is 10% larger than its sister ships Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva (also built by Fincantieri). The ship offers expansive outdoor spaces, meticulously curated design, and groundbreaking amenities, including:

  • Aqua Slidecoaster: The world’s first hybrid waterslide and rollercoaster.
  • Glow Court: A digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor.
  • Aqua Game Zone: A multifunctional entertainment area with immersive games and virtual reality.
  • Ocean Boulevard: The largest 360-degree outdoor promenade ever built on a cruise ship.

Over the past few months, more than 4,000 Fincantieri employees and subcontractors worked tirelessly to complete the vessel. The Marghera shipyard now prepares for another milestone: the launch ceremony of Norwegian Luna (Norwegian Aqua’s sister ship) tomorrow, set to enter service in spring 2026.

This dual achievement underscores the strong partnership between Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, coming just weeks after the historic order for four ~226,000 gross ton cruise ships—the largest ever built by Fincantieri for NCL.
