German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has expressed his satisfaction with the projected increase in future defense spending.

With decisions made on June 24, 2025, the Government led by Chancellor Merz reiterated its commitment to massively strengthening the Bundeswehr for national defense and the Alliance, enabling urgently needed investments in defense.
At the same time, the German Government sent a clear signal to the Allied with Germany that it intends to take on its responsibilities in the context of collective defense, becoming one of the essential cornerstones of NATO and European security policy.
The German defense budget for 2025 will increase by about 10 billion euros, reaching about 62.43 billion euros; to these will be added another 24 billion euros from the special Bundeswehr fund, bringing the total to 86.43 billion euros for Defense spending.
The multiyear planning foresees the allocation for the Defense budget of 82.69 billion euros in 2026, 93.35 billion euros in 2027, 136.48 billion euros in 2028 and 152.83 billion euros in 2029.
With these substantial resources, it will be possible to modernize and strengthen the air, naval, and terrestrial components of the Bundeswehr but also cyberspace. The Bundeswehr will be able to purchase materials in the areas of air defense, long-range precision weapons, drones and counter-drone systems, as well as ammunition.
On the other hand, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stressed that equipment alone is not enough; in fact, the Bundeswehr needs to increase the personnel at its disposal.
For this purpose, the budget plan provides for about 10,000 new military jobs and 1,000 civilian jobs for the Bundeswehr.
The infrastructure and training areas sector will also receive new impetus thanks to the greater availability of funds allowing investments in new barracks and improvement of current ones.
