In Germany, Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has signed a major service contract with the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) to upgrade and support the six U212A submarines in service with the German Navy.

The contract is worth over 800 million euros and will last ten years; it is planned to upgrade the main systems of the U212A boats to ensure the technological superiority of the German submarine fleet in the long term and to face the future challenges of national defense and the Alliance.

Under the said contract, TKMS, as the prime contractor, undertakes to provide complete services and highlights the importance of collaboration with the German Navy in the maintenance sector to ensure the high operational availability and performance of the German submarine fleet currently based on the U212A boats in service also in four examples with the Navy.

As the prime contractor in submarine construction, TKMS collaborates with numerous small and medium-sized companies, contributing and at the same time creating industrial value in Germany by boosting the economy and supporting the jobs.

The German company is a world leader in the supply of conventional submarines, with recent orders for 212CD submarines for Germany and Norway, and for 218SG boats destined for the Navy of the Republic of Singapore, bringing the order portfolio to 18 billion euros and guaranteeing employment and production until 2040.

The additional service contract signed with BAAINBw contributes to the development of the order portfolio and to the positive market situation.
