ICEYE, the global leader in SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite operations, and the Finnish Defense Forces have officially signed a contract for the procurement of SAR satellites.
This agreement follows the Letter of Intent signed by ICEYE with the Finnish Ministry of Defense last June. It will significantly enhance the intelligence and space surveillance capabilities of the Finnish Defense Forces.
The contract with the Finnish Defense Forces
The contract was signed in Tampere, Finland, by Brigadier General of the Engineers Juha-Matti Ylitalo, deputy director of the Logistical Command of the Finnish Defense Forces, and Seppo Aaltonen, vice president of ICEYE for the Nordic countries and NATO.
The acquisition includes ICEYE’s SAR satellites, technical systems, and necessary equipment to establish a sovereign space surveillance capability for the Finnish Defense Forces.
ICEYE’s SAR satellites can provide high-resolution images and data in any weather and light conditions, a key advantage for maintaining situational awareness.
The contract is worth a total of approximately 158 million euros and includes the main procurement and options to extend the satellites’ lifecycle and expand the system’s capabilities in the future.
ICEYE’s Global Capability
Currently, ICEYE owns and operates the largest constellation of SAR satellites in the world, offering unlimited global access and the highest revisit frequency on the market.
ICEYE’s SAR satellites provide a ground resolution of 25 cm, enabling accurate object detection and situational awareness in all weather and light conditions.
So far, ICEYE has put 54 SAR satellites into orbit for its own use and for its customers.
