Israeli Spy Satellite Ofek 19 Successfully Launched into Orbit
Israel successfully launched its new Earth observation satellite, Ofek 19, into orbit.
Ofek 19 is set to enhance the IDF’s space intelligence capabilities by bolstering their strategic technological advantage throughout the Middle East.
The satellite was launched aboard a three-stage Shavit rocket from central Israel. Once it reached its intended orbit, after performing its initial checks, the satellite began sending its first signals back to the space command center on Earth, confirming the operation’s success.
Ofek 19 represents the technological pinnacle of Israel’s developed and deployed observation (‘spy’) satellites.
The satellite is a product of cooperation between Israel’s Ministry of Defense, military intelligence, and industry. Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) developed and manufactured the satellite and launcher as the program’s principal contractor.
Elta, Rafele, and Tomer also participated in the program, collaborating on the creation of the Shavit rocket.
Ofek 19 is a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) observation satellite, providing the State of Israel with day and night intelligence capabilities in all weather and visibility conditions.
Once fully operational, the new satellite will be managed by Unit 9900, the geospatial and visual intelligence division of IDF Intelligence, one of the world’s most advanced in this field.
After completing tests, Ofek 19 will soon join an operational constellation in Space that significantly expands the IDF’s intelligence capabilities with cutting-edge technologies, allowing the State of Israel to maintain its operational advantage in both distant and nearby contexts throughout the middle eastern sky.
