The Working Group tasked with drafting Italy’s National Strategy for Quantum Technologies has launched a public consultation on the first draft of the document.
The Working Group, established by the Ministry of Universities and Research in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN), and the Department for Digital Transition (DTD) of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, has brought together research experts and institutional representatives to outline a strategic framework aimed at strengthening Italy’s position in this cutting-edge field.
This initiative aligns with Italy’s broader commitment, as underscored by the signing of the European Declaration on Quantum Technologies by the Minister of Universities and Research, Anna Maria Bernini. Through this declaration, Italy reaffirmed its intent to intensify investments in research and innovation, develop the skills needed to support the European Union’s quantum ecosystem, and recognize its strategic value in terms of global security.
An analysis of Italy’s national landscape reveals a dynamic and growing environment, supported by a network of world-class academic and industrial institutions. National research institutes and businesses are actively engaged in quantum computing, simulation, metrology, and sensing. In light of these findings, the Working Group has prepared the first draft of the National Quantum Technologies Strategy, now available for consultation by all sector stakeholders, who are invited to submit feedback and comments.
