Italy-Greece Defense Talks Highlight SAR, European Patrol Corvette, and F-35 Partnership

Last Wednesday, Dr. Luisa Riccardi, Secretary General of Defense and Acting National Armaments Director, welcomed a Greek delegation led by National Armaments Director Maj. Gen. Ioannis Bouras at Palazzo Guidoni.

During their stay in Rome, the delegation visited the Pratica di Mare military base, touring the Italian Air Force’s 85th Combat Search and Rescue (C-SAR) Center and conducting a flight exercise on the Leonardo AW139 helicopter. Meetings continued with visits to the Rome offices of key defense industries, including Leonardo, Fincantieri, and ELT Group Elettronica.

The bilateral talks were marked by cordiality, mutual satisfaction, and shared objectives, highlighting opportunities for successful partnerships to meet operational needs and strengthen security and defense collaboration. A key focus is developing a rotary-wing partnership for Search and Rescue (SAR) and Combat SAR missions.

Potential naval cooperation under the Modular Multirole Patrol Corvette-European Patrol Corvette (MMPC-EPC) program was also discussed, signaling effective multilateral collaboration and future joint procurement. Additionally, groundwork was laid for broader cooperation in the F-35 Program.
