The US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, based at the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, has awarded Lockheed Martin Corporation a $4.28 billion-dollar order for the production of Joint Air-To-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) Lots 22-26 and Long-Range, Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) Lots 9-12.
This order is part of an existing contract for JASSM and LRASM production, bringing the total value of the contract to $9.48 billion dollars to date.
Work on this order will be carried out in Orlando, Florida, and Troy, Alabama, and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2033.
Order for the US Armed Forces and Allied Nations
In addition to the US Air Force and Navy, the order includes Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, and Japan for the JASSM-ER and to Japan for the LRASM.
The AGM-158B JASSM-ER air-to-surface standoff missiles and the long-range AGM-158C LRASM anti-ship missiles have a high percentage of common components, facilitating joint production.
AGM-158B/B2 JASSM-ER
The AGM-158B/B2 JASSM-ER has an operational range greater than 925 km or 575 nautical miles; it features a GPS guidance system resistant to jamming and an IR seeker for precision attack phase guidance.
It is powered by a Williams International F107-WR-105 turbofan, enabling the JASSM-ER to reach subsonic speed. The JASSM-ER is equipped with a 450 kg (1000 lb) WDU-42/B penetrator and blast fragmentation warhead capable of hitting protected targets.
AGM-158C LRASM
The LRASM (AGM-158C) is designed to detect and destroy specific targets within ship groups, leveraging advanced technologies that reduce dependence on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, network links, and GPS navigation in environments degraded by electronic warfare.
The LRASM system plays a significant role in ensuring military access to operate in open sea, thanks to its greater ability to discriminate and execute long-range precision strikes.
The AGM-158C is a stand-off anti-ship missile with a precision guidance system based on the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile – Extended Range (JASSM-ER). It employs an INS navigation and precision guidance system, operating day or night in all weather conditions. The LRASM is equipped with a suite of multi-modal sensors, a data link, and an enhanced digital anti-jam GPS to detect and destroy specific targets within a large group of ships at sea.
The AGM-158C carries a 450 kg warhead with penetration and fragmentation effect, with an estimated range of 300 nautical miles or 550 km.
