Knight’s Cross of the OMI Awarded to the War Flag of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment ‘Nembo’

Introduction

In the festivity of National Unity and Armed Forces Day, held on November 4 in the antiquated port of Ancona, the War Flag of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “Nembo” was honored with the Knight’s Cross of the Military Order of Italy (OMI).

During The Event

During the event, in the presence of top institutional figures, the President of the Republic presented the medal to the War Flag, paying tribute to the values, dedication and sacrifice that has always distinguished the regiment.

“The Paratroopers Regiment, exceptional in temperament, steadily dedicated in the most complex international crisis scenarios, provided evidence of their extraordinary professionalism and sense of duty. With contempt for danger and utmost courage in countering terrorist threats, they ensured the safety of local populations, contributing to the perfect success of the missions. A luminous example of unity, the unit’s courageous actions have garnered international applause and admiration, augmenting the prestige of Italy and its Armed Forces. Afghanistan 2011,2013; Lebanon 2017/18”.

The Return of The War Flag to Pistoia

Upon its return, the War Flag of the Nembo was welcomed by the regiment staff who, in the evening of November 4, wanted to underline the importance of the event with a short ceremony held the morning of November 5, in the presence of civil and military authorities, at the Giovanni Marini barracks in Pistoia.

The commander of the 183rd Paratroopers Regiment “Nembo”, Colonel Alessandro Villa, highlighted that the award is the result of the consistent commitment and sacrifice of all the soldiers of the department, both past and present, a symbol of honor, dedication, and service to the nation. The national Unity and Armed Forces Day has thus taken on an even deeper meaning for the Paratroopers of Pistoia.
