Latvia: Italian Contingent Achieves Full Operational Capability

The Task Group Baltic recently completed the second phase of its training cycle, attaining Full Operational Capability (FOC) during the exercise “Oak Resolve 25”.

The activity, overseen by the Canadian-led Multinational Brigade Latvia, aimed to validate the integrated combat readiness of the multinational Battle Group, which includes Italian Army components participating in the NATO Forward Land Forces (FLF) mission.

The exercise involved approximately 1,500 soldiers from Allied nations stationed in Latvia. Over seven consecutive days, troops were deployed in a high-intensity warfighting scenario, executing defensive, offensive, and maneuver-support operations on the ground.

“Oak Resolve 25” reinforced standardized tactical-technical procedures refined throughout the training cycle, underscoring how—under the motto “NATO Stands As One”—the Alliance’s forces are genuinely integrated, ensuring a swift, coordinated, and credible response.

During the exercise, the Italian contingent, primarily drawn from the 132nd Armored Brigade “Ariete” of the Italian Army, and other Battle Group units engaged in simulated combat against Opposing Forces (OPFOR). The maneuvers began with absorbing adversarial pressure through a mix of static and dynamic defensive actions, later transitioning into a counterattack.

Throughout all phases, logistical support from national combat service support assets—delivered despite challenging environmental conditions—enabled maneuver units to maintain high efficiency via rapid and effective resupply of vehicles and materials.
