Introduction
Today at the Officine Farneto in Rome, the presentation of the ‘Michelangelo Dome’ took place, the new advanced integrated defense system designed by Leonardo to respond to emerging threats in an increasingly complex global scenario.

Project Overview
This project arises from the need to protect critical infrastructures, sensitive urban areas, territories, and assets of national and European interest with a modular, open, scalable, and multidomain solution. It is part of Leonardo’s broader strategy to consolidate its position as a key player in the field of global security.
With Michelangelo Dome, commented Roberto Cingolani – CEO and General Manager of Leonardo – ‘Leonardo reaffirms its commitment to developing solutions that protect citizens, institutions and infrastructures, combining advanced technology, system vision and industrial capacity. In a world where threats evolve rapidly and become increasingly complex, where defense costs more than attack, defense must be able to innovate, anticipate and open itself to international cooperation.’
Michelangelo Dome Features
Michelangelo Dome is not a single system, but a complete architecture that integrates new generation terrestrial, naval, aerial and spatial sensors, cyber defense platforms, command and control systems, artificial intelligence, and coordinated effectors. The platform creates a dynamic security dome capable of identifying, tracking and neutralizing threats, even in the event of massive attacks, across all operation domains: aerial and missile, including hypersonic missiles and drone swarms, surface and sub-surface sea attacks, terrestrial hostile forces.
Thanks to advanced fusion of data from multiple sensors and the use of predictive algorithms, Michelangelo can anticipate hostile behaviors, optimize operational response and automatically coordinate the most suitable effectors.
Impact
With Michelangelo Dome, Leonardo consolidates its role as a European reference in multidomain security and contributes to the objectives of strategic autonomy, technological resilience and integration of European and NATO defensive capabilities. The initiative is part of continental cooperation programs and aims to further enhance the industrial excellences present in the national territory.
