Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello Observes Technological Demonstration of Mobile C-UAS Systems

Foce Verde Military Range (LT), February 24, 2025

This morning, the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, attended a testing session of Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) “on the move” technologies proposed by defense industries. The event, organized by the Center of Excellence for Countering Mini/Micro Remotely Piloted Aircraft, took place at the Foce Verde military range in Latina province (LT).

Lieutenant General Masiello was welcomed to the training area by the Commander of the Terrestrial Operational Support Forces, Lieutenant General Massimo Scala, and the Commander of Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Brigadier General Giuseppe Amodio. He observed a demonstration of anti-drone systems defending a moving convoy across multiple operational scenarios, aimed at ensuring the safety of friendly forces from drone threats.

The initiative seeks to evaluate innovative technologies developed by the defense industry and assess their effectiveness in addressing drone threats during overseas operations and national security missions.

Addressing personnel training at the Foce Verde range, the Army Chief of Staff stated:
“You are our excellence in force protection. From your activities, experiments, expertise, and technological cross-pollination, we draw daily lessons to innovate our Army and adapt our units’ capabilities to the complex challenges of our time. As always, we have a duty to remain ready and prepared to ensure peace and security. Defense—our work—is an essential pillar of our democracy. Press forward swiftly, leveraging the ideas of our youth, who are the driving force of both the Army and the nation.”

The growing use of drones in modern battlefields increasingly influences ground operations. Testing technologies to counter this pervasive threat remains a cornerstone of the Center of Excellence’s mission.
