Michelangelo Security Dome: A Key Step Forward with Successful Air Defense Test in Italy

Less than ten days after launching its advanced Michelangelo Security Dome integrated defense system, Leonardo confirms its technological excellence in the area of Radar Sensors for Air and Missile Defense, one of the pillars of the Italian Dome.

On December 3, 2025, the first qualification launch of the Italian SAMP/T NG missile system equipped with the Leonardo KRONOS Grand Mobile High Power state-of-the-art Radar Sensor was completed. This Radar Sensor, based on multifunctional AESA electronic scanning architecture and equipped with the most advanced technologies required by this capability, confirmed its excellent performance by tracking the target and guiding the missile to intercept at a distance never recorded before with the Eurosam SAMP/T system during land-based demonstrative activities.

This performance confirms the Leonardo KRONOS Grand Mobile High Power as the best-in-class Radar Sensor in Europe for air and missile defense systems.

This achievement, in addition to those obtained during international Integrated Air and Missile Defense exercises (Formidable Shield and Pacific Dragon) and trials on SAM (surface-to-air) land systems, further confirms the solidity of Leonardo’s path for the realization of the Italian Michelangelo Security Dome, positioned through its dynamic and open architecture to lead the integration of a Dome against air and missile threats for Europe.
