Minister Crosetto at the Informal Meeting of the European Union Defence Ministers

“Today in Warsaw, together with my colleagues from the European Union, I had a discussion on the future of the continent’s security and defense in light of the complex international framework. An important opportunity to define shared strategies to strengthen the security of nations and that of Europe, with a focus on industrial, technological and operational cooperation between Member States. We examined in depth the proposals of the White Paper on European Defense and the possible solutions to fill the main capability gaps in view of the European Council of June 2025. I reiterated Italy’s support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, to be achieved in the shortest possible time, as well as the importance of a unitary and coordinated approach between European and transatlantic allies”.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, on the sidelines of the meeting, and then added:

“Furthermore, Italy’s commitment to actively contribute to initiatives to strengthen the deterrence and resilience of European nations and therefore of Europe, promoting greater strategic autonomy and interoperability between Member States, was confirmed”.

Minister Crosetto met with his colleagues from France, Sébastien Lecornu, Estonia, Hanno Pevkur, Slovakia, Robert Kaliňák, and the Netherlands, Ruben Brekelmans.

Positive and constructive discussions, an opportunity to confirm the common will to make every effort to avoid an escalation of the dramatic conflicts underway and to discuss issues of common interest. Focus also on cooperation between Armed Forces.
