Nammo has announced that it has secured major new contracts for its family of 25x137mm ammunition for the F-35 ordered by European NATO users and Switzerland.
From Switzerland and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) acting on behalf of Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and Poland, Nammo has been awarded contracts for APEX combat ammunition and for ballistically balanced shooting bullets with bounce risk reduction (RRR) capabilities.
The total value of these contracts is approximately 60 million Euros.
Production of the ammunition is expected to begin in 2026, with deliveries scheduled for the following 2-3 years. It is anticipated that the APEX combat ammunition will play a key role in strengthening the capabilities of NATO and Switzerland’s F-35 fighter fleet in the long term.
APEX Features
APEX is recognized as the most effective aviation firearms ammunition ever employed, with its demonstrated capabilities against a wide spectrum of threats.
The APEX bullet features a unique airborne control capability not found in any other ammunition for the F-35.
Nammo has closely collaborated with the Norwegian Defense Materials Agency (FMA) and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), investing significant efforts and resources in the research, development, testing, and qualification to ensure the use of this ammunition for the F-35A aircraft.
The 25mm APEX PGU-47/U, designed for the F-35’s GAU-22/A cannon, combines penetrating, explosive, and tracing capabilities in a single bullet, offering high precision, extended range, and effectiveness against both air and ground targets.
The 25mm TP-RRR PGU-51/B and the 25mm TP-T RRR PGU-52/B combine cost-effective training with design features that provide increased safety during training.
Previously, a major initial contract for this advanced type of ammunition was signed by Nammo with Australia last year.
