Introduction
Otokar, the largest Turkish exporter of land systems, has announced that they have received an order worth $83.6 million for their combat-tested COBRA II 4×4 tactical armored vehicle.
According to the sales contract registered for export, the delivery of the vehicles to the unnamed customer is expected by 2025.
The COBRA II 4×4 is actively used by over 20 clients across 13 countries.
The COBRA II 4×4
Otokar has designed the COBRA II 4×4 as a modular platform that can be adapted to fulfill varying mission requirements. The vehicle was first introduced in 2013, and 30 different configurations meeting the diverse needs and requirements of its users have been developed since then.
In addition to its superior mobility, the COBRA II 4×4 offers protection against ballistic threats, mines, and IEDs.
Thanks to its high power-to-weight ratio, Otokar’s armored vehicle provides high performance and has proven suitable for integrating a wide range of weapon options and equipment to address different mission types.
COBRA II 4×4 Features
The COBRA II is a 4×4 tactical armored vehicle capable of accommodating a maximum of nine soldiers, with the space for a driver and commander. The vehicle has a length of 6.4 meters, inclusive of a winch and spare wheel, a width of 2.5 meters, and a height of 2.3 meters for a total mass of 14.5 tons. It has a 400 mm ground clearance to mitigate the effects of mine and IED explosions.
Engine and Performance
The armored vehicle is equipped with a 6.7-liter, six-cylinder water-cooled turbocharged engine that delivers a maximum power of 360 hp at 2,650 rpm and a torque of 1,100 Nm at 1,400 rpm. Its top speed is 110 km/h, and it has an operating range of about 700km on road (200-liter tank). The COBRA II 4×4 features fully independent suspension with coil springs and linear shock absorbers. Standard equipment includes a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS), 395/85 R20 run-flat radial tires, an ABS system, and air conditioning.
Weaponry and Other Equipment
The COBRA II 4×4 can be equipped with a Ucok remote controlled turret armed with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun. Alternatively, the RcWS can be armed with a 7.62 mm caliber machine gun or a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. Various integrated turret and weapons systems including ones that launch anti-tank missiles, and an optronic suite for surveillance and target acquisition in day, night, or low visibility situations can also be installed. Smoke and obscuring automatic grenade launchers for vehicle protection are also available on board.
