Poland Shoots Down Infringing Russian Drones: A Detail on Recent Events
Poland has proceeded to intercept Russian drones that breached their airspace by making an incursion on Polish territory.
The measure was taken by the Polish Defense as the unauthorized entry of Russian drones was considered a potentially dangerous act of aggression to citizens and infrastructure.
It does not seem that it was a single drone crossing the borders with Poland but at least six to ten remotely piloted aircraft, which makes the Russian action appear intentional.
On the Polish side, all defenses were activated, and the action also involved Patriot missile system radars.
The Intervention of NATO Defenses
In the night-time operation, Polish F-16C fighter jets, Dutch F-35A, Italian CAEW radar surveillance aircraft, and A330 MRTT refueling aircraft jointly operated by NATO were involved.
NATO has stated that it does not regard the event as a simple incident; according to Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, it appeared to be a sort of survey of Polish and NATO reaction times by the Russians.
Obviously, Poland has put its Armed Forces on high alert and Polish President Karol Nawrocki has decided to convene a meeting of the National Security Council within 48 hours.
It should be noted that yesterday the Polish Government ordered the closure of the border with Belarus and fortified it in view of the military maneuvers of the Kiev Armed Forces along with those of Moscow; a similar move was decided by the Baltic countries bordering Belarus and Russia.
Polish airports remained closed to traffic for hours and in Wyryki, in eastern Poland, it seems that a drone crashed into a residential building, fortunately without causing damage to the inhabitants.
NATO is in constant contact with Polish authorities and has begun the necessary procedures to strengthen defenses.
