In Poland, the Armament Agency of the Ministry of National Defense has signed a contract with MESKO SA for the supply of thousands of 120mm APFSDS-T (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot) armor-piercing rounds for Leopard 2 tanks.
According to the contract, MESKO SA will provide thousands of 120×570 type APFSDS-T (Kinetic Energy Penetrator) rounds for the Rh 120 L 44 guns.
The contract’s value is about 150 million gross PLN, approximately 35 million euros.
The deliveries of the ordered equipment are planned for 2026-2027; the rounds will be used to arm the Leopard 2PL and 2A5. For the M1 Abrams and the K2 Black Panther that adopt, respectively, the M256 and CN08 in their purchase contracts, the supply of ammunition, including APFSDS-T type, is expected from the United States and South Korea.
Features of MESKO SA’s APFSDS-T
The APFSDS-T produced by MESKO SA are designed to destroy armored targets engaged at long distances, up to 4 kilometers, and reach an initial speed of 1670 meters per second.
The weight of the full round is over 15 kilograms, of which approximately 7.3 kilograms is the body of the round and approximately 8.4 kilograms is the propellant charge.
