Sweden Orders Additional Batch of CAVS 6×6 Armored Vehicles

In Sweden, the Defense Materiel Administration (FMV), the military procurement agency, has placed an order on behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces for a further 94 armored Terrain Vehicles 300 (Patria 6×6), fitted by Finnish company Patria Land Oy.

Patria 6x6

The new additional order is valued at around 1.5 billion Swedish kronor, equivalent to about 137 million Euros, and includes variants of the vehicle for troop transport, command, and protected ambulance.

In 2024, FMV ordered 321 Patria 6×6 armored vehicles and, with this additional order, a total of 415 vehicles will be delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces between 2025 and 2030.

The CAVS program

This order is part of the CAVS (Common Armored Vehicle System) collaboration, of which Sweden is a participant, along with Finland, Latvia, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

To date, from the Patria Group and the connected industrial network, 14 out of 300 armored troop transport vehicles have been delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces, in addition to a pre-series of 20 vehicles in use by the Armed Forces for a year and a half, which has been used for in-depth testing and experimentation.

Features of the Swedish CAVS Patria 6×6

The version of the CAVS Patria 6×6 adopted by the Swedish Armed Forces is characterized by the presence of the Norwegian Kongsberg’s RS4 Protector Remote Weapon Station (RWS), a highly flexible design designed for the use of heavy 12.7×99 mm machine guns and medium 7.62×51 mm machine guns, or 40/53 mm automatic grenade launchers including the installation of coaxial weapons and anti-tank weapons (missiles and other systems).

Beyond the RS4 Protector, also present on the Finnish equipped versions, the Swedish CAVS Patria 6×6 also utilizes a smoke grenade launching system.
