Construction of the Third Pohjanmaa Class Corvette Underway in Finland
Construction of the third Pohjanmaa class multi-role corvette for the Helsinki Navy started in Finland, marked by the traditional steel cutting ceremony.
Currently, Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) is producing three of the four multi-role corvettes ordered by the Finnish Defense.
RMC, along with its subsidiary RMC Defence Oy, is constructing four Pohjanmaa class multi-role corvettes for the Finnish Navy as part of the Squadron 2020 project.
These high-performance multi-role corvettes are designed for various conditions of the Baltic Sea, including ice-covered water operations.
RMC has made significant investments and improvements in its capabilities to facilitate the building of these multi-role corvettes.
The Pohjanmaa class corvettes are built in a specially constructed indoor facility for the project, to meet the required safety and quality levels.
The Rauma shipyard also meets NATO’s safety requirements. The corvette project has brought excellent collaboration with partners and subcontractors to a higher level.
The first of the multi-role corvettes under construction was launched in May 2025; the ship is now under outfitting. Production of the second multi-role corvette began in October 2024 and is currently in the hull assembly phase.
The Squadron 2020 project is expected to conclude in 2029. The direct employment impact of the project is over 3,600 person-years in Finland.
