The United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (UK MoD) has announced a military research program for the development of a ground-launched short-range ballistic missile.
The program, codenamed “Nightfall”, intends to create a cost-effective tactical ballistic missile with a range exceeding 600 km. This missile will be capable of being launched from a mobile ground platform in a high-risk tactical environment, navigating, and accurately hitting a target as programmed by the user.
The UK MoD requires the missile to operate in challenging physical environments, day and night, possess a low multispectral signature, be resilient in a complex electromagnetic environment, withstand targeted EW and spoofing attacks, and function in degraded or denied GNSS environments.
Based on future potential contracts, production will need to be scalable to meet operational requirements, with a minimum of 10 units per month, with the possibility of further increase.
