The 5th Technological Innovation Unit of the General Secretariat for Defense/Directorate of National Armaments (SGD/DNA), in coordination with the Defense General Staff, held an event at Guidoni Palace focused on valorizing the outcomes of military technological research achieved under the National Military Research Plan (PNRM).
In particular, the results of the research projects concluded between January 2023 and June 2024 were shared with Defense stakeholders—including industry, universities, and research institutions.
The thematic areas covered by the fifteen projects presented range from innovative sensors to devices and systems (weapons, munitions, and advanced materials), as well as autonomous systems, from artificial intelligence to cyber security, and from cryptography and Big Data analysis to veteran support.
In addition to SGD/DNA, the event was attended by representatives of the Defense General Staff and the General Staffs of the Armed Forces, as well as by the Research, Development, and Technological Innovation group of the Federation of Italian Companies for Aerospace, Defense, and Security.
Finally, the 2024 Technological Research and Innovation Report was presented, with its publication being curated annually by the 5th Unit of SGD/DNA.
Note
The National Military Research Plan (PNRM) fuels Italy’s defense innovation by funding key research projects across advanced sensors, autonomous systems, and next-generation weaponry. Managed by the Ministry of Defense and the Directorate of National Armaments, it fosters collaboration among defense agencies, industry, and academia. Regular valorization events showcase project outcomes, ensuring that technological advancements translate into enhanced national security and modernized military capabilities.
